What is the CHC?

 

CHC's were set up in l974, in order to monitor the National Health Service, to recommend improvements to the local Health Authorities and to represent the interests of the users of the NHS.

 

South Birmingham CHC acts as an independent consumer watchdog for the health services in the area. South Birmingham CHC has five members of staff and 30 voluntary members. There are four CHCs in Birmingham, South Birmingham Community Health Council looks after the five constituencies in the South of Birmingham, Sparkbrook, Selly Oak, Northfield, Edgbaston and Hall Green.

What Does the CHC Do?

 

Offers help, information & advice on NHS services

 

Holds regular public meetings to discuss local & national issues

 

Represents users of health services on committees & groups

Is consulted on changes in services

Monitors hospital, community and other NHS health services by visits and surveys to find out what people think of services they are using

 

Helps individuals with the NHS complaints system

 

Help & Advice

 

The CHC provides a free & confidential information service for patients and members of the public about NHS services and how to use them. We can also assist people who wish to make a complaint by advising on the procedures and supporting people through the complaints system.

 

We are always interested to hear of people's experiences of the NHS in this area, so contact us if there is anything you think we should know.

We are open between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm Monday to Friday. There is an answer phone at other times, if you leave your name and phone number we can call you back. We strongly advise that you phone for an appointment if you want to speak to someone in person because meetings and visits often mean that staff are not always in the office.
